Living on a Sailboat - Our Journey
In 1994 we resigned to living on a sailboat...we did as such for a long time, all in the Caribbean.
I initially ventured foot on a sailboat in 1989 on a shore journey in St Thomas, USVI. We went through 4 hours on a 36 foot pontoon claimed by a decent youthful couple. That night as we left St Thomas we looked down from the voyage dispatch on the sailboats bouncing in the harbor and expressed." We will be sitting in the cockpit of one of those watching the journey ships leave in 5 years". We did only that in 1995. I was snared on the sailboat cruising way of life.
We begun by perusing everything we could discover on cruising...it is a great deal not quite the same as sailboat dashing, which we never did on our pontoon. We at that point took some cruising exercises on Clear Lake south of our Houston home.
We next took cruising excursions in the BVI (British Virgin Islands), the best spot to go to begin cruising. We went with a chief and cook... 6 to 8 travelers to a 50 foot pontoon... the group will give you a chance to cruise and do vessel stuff as long as it was protected. They were shelled by inquiries by me. We were living on a sailboat...not our own yet on a vessel.
After a manned excursion from St Lucia to Grenada...we began taking vessels out independent from anyone else, 36 to 40 footers. This is called uncovered drifting. We were green yet we totally adored it. These treks were seven days in duration...hey we were working.
In January 1994, we took a multi week bareboat trip in the BVI. We didn't get exhausted and we thought...Hey we can do this bvi sailboat charters thing. We returned home and began searching for a vessel and arranging our departure from working.
In May of 1994 we purchased our solitary vessel, a multi year old 35 foot Island Packet, we named her Shadowtime. From May until November we went through our ends of the week on the vessel at a decent marina in Kemah, Texas. In November 1994 I set out for the Virgin Islands with 2 companions, 1 with seaward experience. Went from Kemah to Key West Florida...from Key West to Marsh Harbor, Bahamas...then Marsh Harbor to Jost Van Dyke in the BVI. The whole excursion took 22 days, 18 adrift.
Once in the Virgin Islands, I returned home to Texas for Christmas. My lady of the hour quit her place of employment in January and we flew back to the vessel. That began a multi year experience living inside the tunes of Jimmy Buffett.
That is our short story. See more on my site underneath.
Does living on a sailboat take a lifetime of having ocean salt in your blood? No, we are living evidence that anybody with a craving to attempt this brilliant way of life can do as such. You can as well on the off chance that you truly need to. Appreciate.
